Congratulations - you've hit the career jackpot!
Imagine it….. you’ve finally arrived at the pinnacle of your career.
Time to savour that delicious moment and drink in your hard-won success.
As you celebrate hitting the career jackpot, I have a couple of questions for you:
· What does your career success look like?
· How does it feel?
Strangely enough, many people never actually ask themselves these question while they’re on the way ‘there’.
Many are heading in a direction they aimed for twenty odd years ago, and it’s now not very clear why they ever made that choice.
Others stumbled into something that seemed a good bet – but which over the years has changed beyond recognition.
Or will your current career fall foul of technological advances, A.I., or this current pandemic?
Might this be a good time to rethink where you’re heading?
WHY this direction?
Knowing what you’re aiming for – and WHY – gives you an edge.
It means you have:
· CLARITY of direction
· FUEL for the journey
· and BELIEF that it can happen
Knowing how you’ll feel when you eventually arrive is equally important. That energy and clarity provides an extra dollop of drive when the going gets tough.
As we trudge on through lockdown (week 9 in the UK), why not take 10 minutes out of your busy (?) schedule to try to answer those two questions? Flesh out the picture of where you’re heading and what’s that going to offer you.
Here they are again:
What does career success look like to you?
How does it feel?
And a helping hand…
For extra focus I’ve developed a new resource to help reveal your personal and professional success criteria.
By approaching these questions systematically, you’re actually giving yourself the best chance of getting there.
So, is your career fit for purpose? And how can you act on this insight?
